PRESS ASSISTANT

Perrotin Hong Kong is looking for a self-initiated Press Assistant with excellent language, communication and coordination skills to join their team.
 
 
The Role
 
The Press Assistant shall coordinate between Perrotin’s Hong Kong team, Perrotin’s Paris communications team and Perrotin's global team of artist liaisons to ensure press releases, newsletters, website and social media updates, advertisements and other collateral concerning Perrotin Hong Kong exhibitions, art fair participations and other news, are produced, distributed and archived accurately and in a timely manner.
 
Applicants demonstrating proven, excellent skills in art writing and translation (in English, Traditional Chinese and/or Simplified Chinese) may be considered for expanded or additional responsibilities in these areas.
 
 
Responsibilities
 
·      Liaise with translators to produce trilingual (English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese) art text for various press and communication material;
 
·      Liaise with appointed Hong Kong-based PR agency to plan, execute, monitor and track press activities;
 
·      Distribute press releases and news concerning Perrotin’s Hong Kong exhibitions and activities to the gallery’s press contacts, and respond to incoming press queries and interview requests;
 
·      Trilingual (English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese) translation of non-art text, e.g. correspondences and notices where applicable;
 
·      Assemble all relevant content and material, e.g. HD images, captions and key communication messages, for press releases, newsletters, website and social media updates, and advertisements;
 
·      Coordinate with Perrotin’s Hong Kong design team to produce layouts for various collateral; 
 
·      Coordinate with photographers or be responsible for photography for social media posts, and coordinate with Perrotin’s Paris communications team on scheduling social media posts;
 
·      Research and evaluate advertising and marketing opportunities;
 
·      Complete relevant sections concerning marketing in art fair applications:
 
·      Gather, scan and file all coverage received through appointed PR agency;
 
·      Assemble a press book of selected coverage for each Hong Kong exhibition or project;
 
·      Assemble an advertisement report (hard and soft copies) for each Hong Kong exhibition or project for Perrotin’s Paris communications team;
 
·      Maintain a schedule of all deadlines related to the production, distribution and tracking of news via above-mentioned channels;
 
·      Track and record visitor attendance statistics;
 
·      Monitor and record relevant expenses;
 
·      Ad-hoc duties or projects as assigned.
 
 
Requirements
 
·      Bachelor’s degree in art, translation, communications, journalism or equivalent;
 
·      Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in a relevant full-time role; 
 
·      Proven, strong skills in translating between written English and written Traditional Chinese (the ability to do so in, additionally, Simplified Chinese would present the applicant with an advantage);
 
·      Proven, strong skills in editing and proofreading in English and Traditional Chinese (the ability to do so in, additionally, Simplified Chinese would present the applicant with an advantage);

Logistic Officer / Registrar

 

Responsibilities

  • Arrange international and domestic shipments of artworks for exhibitions, inventory, art fairs, and clients
  • Material management of works of art (preparation for transport, delivery, installation, presentation, packaging, storage of stocks etc.)
  • Organize assembly, setup of shows - rooms, exhibitions, and fair booths etc.
  • Take pictures, inspect artworks and conduct condition reports
  • Follow-up installation and dismantling of exhibitions
  • Follow-up customs, tax regulations and documents required for international shipments
  • Organize local deliveries, release, and prepare documentation
  • Update artwork locations and applicable information in gallery database; maintain inventory

 

Requirements

  • Good command of English, French speaking is an asset
  • Proven experience and knowledge as logistics coordinator

Perrotin New York is currently seeking a full-time employee in the Press and Communications department. The ideal candidate will have press/PR experience, preferably within arts communication, with a thorough working knowledge of its key media and press outlets. The candidate will be based in New York, referring to the Directors of the New York gallery and the Director of Communications based in Paris, liaising with the gallery's teams in New York, Paris and Asia.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Create and execute media plans for gallery exhibitions and special projects

- Write press releases and relevant texts on the gallery’s artists and exhibitions

- Organize press previews for in-house exhibitions and other select events
- Connect with and work well with press teams at other institutions, and with freelance PR who may be hired by the gallery on specific projects

- Fulfill external press requests

- Compose and distribute press recaps

- Maintain the gallery’s press archives

- Scan, format, file, and distribute press clips, including print, audio, etc.

- Set up and comb through artist and gallery Google alerts

- Update and organize the rolodex of press contacts


QUALIFICATIONS

- The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be proactive, and outgoing

- Relational, editorial, and synthesis skills

Front Desk Gallery Assistant

Perrotin New York is looking for a personable and organized Front Desk Gallery Assistant to manage the front desk and perform various office-related administrative tasks. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm with additional hours as needed. Candidate must be able to efficiently multi-task while working in a busy front-desk environment. Attention to detail, excellent communication and problem solving skills are required to excel in this position.
 
- Greet incoming visitors, communicate exhibition information, and answer questions about artwork and programming
- Answer and redirect phone calls to staff and take messages.
- Oversee daily receipt and sending of packages with couriers, FedEx, UPS and USPS
- Check in gallery appointments and liaise with art delivery personnel and other vendors

Public Relations

Galerie Perrotin seeks an experienced public relations and marketing professional to manage and implement our China-based communication strategy. Based in our new Shanghai gallery, the role reports to the Shanghai Directors, with regional guidance from the Asia headquarters in Hong Kong as well as world headquarters in Paris.

Requirements:

- Native Mandarin Chinese speaking and writing capabilities.
- Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken).
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited university.
- 3 to 5+ years of experience in the PR and/or marketing industry in China.

- Experience with event planning.
- Existing media relationships within China.

- Examples of previously published writing.

- The ability to write / translate both academically as well as in layman terms.

- A strong interest in contemporary art.

- Experience working in the art industry is strongly desired although not mandatory.

Duties:

Within China, and under the direction of Hong Kong and Paris, responsible for managing and implementing strategies for press and social media for the purposes of:

i.               promoting Perrotin’s artists and activities nationally.

- Work with exhibitions colleagues to create, using SketchUp, artwork display simulations and exhibition design simulations for proposals, plans and presentations relating to the gallery’s artworks, exhibitions, showrooms, art fair participations and various projects as required.  

 

- Touch-up and edit images of artworks and update artwork records accordingly. 

 

- Touch-up and edit other images including exhibition views and project documentation as required. 

 

- Produce layouts for various design-related requirements according to brand guidelines and corporate specifications. These include press releases, e-invitations, exhibition booklets, exhibition maps, exhibition wall stickers and corporate stationery.

 

- Coordinate with various colleagues and external production vendors (including printers and material suppliers) to source for print production cost estimates and to deliver printed designs on schedule.

 

- Ad-hoc tasks related to design and print production as required.

 

Optional: Candidates with experience and/or strong skills in photography, videography, animation and/or video editing may have the opportunity to undertake additional responsibilities based on such relevant experience.
