Ivan Argote’s work explores our intimate relationship with each other. For example, he examines and plays with different forms of common physical and human contact. Lengua con Lengua illustrates on a larger scale a passionate kiss, the meeting and intertwining of two tongues, and by extension of two individualities. This bronze sculpture appears in the artist's film La Plaza del Chafleo, in which he imagines the different meanings of the verb "Chaflear", a neologism he created. Among these meanings, several uses of the Plaza del Chafleo are thought of, such as being a place where people would kiss each other with ardour. The contact of the tongues becomes a bridge between two, or more, people. Through this romantic, even erotic, gesture Ivan Argote attempts to capture the affective and subjective dimension of our perception of political and social-economic facts.
