For this work, Christiane Pooley was thinking about overlapping two different types of visual representation that emerged in the same territory from different cultural backgrounds and weaving them together. The vertical lines were inspired by the coloured stripes that appear in the pontro woven blankets made by indigenous Mapuche women. "The practice of weaving has occupied a transcendental role for this community in its system of symbolic representation and cultural identity by reconciling processes of change imposed from the outside (by others) with the processes of constructing a sense of continuity associated with the Mapuche tradition" (The Cambridge Handbook of Identity, 2021). The other space of representation based on photography and linear perspective from the Western tradition, from which the artist descends from.
