Sphinx IV is inspired by the winged creatures guarding the Sphinx Gate in the 1984 fantasy film The NeverEnding Story. The sphinxes shoot lasers at anyone they deem unworthy of passing between them—a rejection rather than an embrace. In Greven’s version, the bodies become transformational gates, acting as an invitation to metamorphosis and connectivity.
