The Estate of Gérard Schneider

"Opus 85 i" was created during the decade known as "les années lumière” (the light years).  Schneider's work during this period was luminous, and his reputation was growing, gaining international recognition. Critics unanimously considered Schneider to be one of France's greatest painters.

He finally achieved the synthesis of form and color to which he had always aspired.

Schneider painted sweeping works, his broad brushwork emphasizing their expressive monumentality; on vast expanses of solid color (often blue, as in "Opus 85 i"), single-hued forms collided.

This new form of expression emerged when he began using acrylics, which are more liquid, limpid, and dry faster. His color palette became lighter and brighter, favoring purples, jade greens, and saffron yellows.
