Known for his densely packed canvases of figures caught in moments of transmutation, Ali Banisadr presents his first foray into sculpture with five new bronze editions. Influenced by Ancient Near East sculptures that were both worshiped and destroyed throughout history for their imbued powers, Banisadr regards this new body of work as containing the capacity to exist as talismanic protectors and guardians. Shifting the context of the viewer from that of an observer to that of an interlocutor, these part human, part animal, part machine, part beasts exist as we do – solid, yet in a constant state of in-between.
