The manadier (breeder of a herd of bulls) Jean Lafont asked Othoniel to design him a "joyful" tomb at Le Cailar, in the Petite Camargue. Allowing him to return to his own project for a tomb, the artists produced an ambiguous piece, an architectural "vanitas", whose colored appearance is simply the reverse side of the dramatic event to come.
