This work will be included in Sophia Narrett's upcoming solo exhibition at Perrotin New York, from March 2 through April 15, 2023.

Sophia Narrett’s meticulous embroidery works most often explore the complexities of desire in the modern age — in Seven Circles, she considers the allure as well as limitations of tradition. Here, an ethereal silhouette circles a central figure under a tallit, performing a Jewish wedding ceremony, hakafot in Hebrew, symbolizing completeness and protection. Encircled by seven rows of tulips, an art historical symbol of endless love, the scene emanates power and beauty. Yet, there is a sense of unease, with both faces hidden, staring into an endless distance with no foreseeable completion. Is the woman in control or being controlled? Through Seven Circles, Narrett considers the role of tradition in our collective fantasies and whether it ultimately encourages or quells wonder.
