Pia Camil est née en 1980 à Mexico City où elle vit et travaille toujours. Son travail a été montré au Mexique, en Colombie, en France et aux Etats-Unis. Camil a reçu sa licence en Beaux Arts à The Rhode Island School of Design en 2003 et son Master en Beaux Arts à The Slade School of Fine Art en 2008. En 2009, elle crée El Resplandor, un groupe de performeurs. Elle a reçu des prix y compris the European Honors Program du Palazzo Cenci à Rome en Italie en 2001 et fut nominée pour The Paul Hamlyn Award à Londres en 2008. Le travail de Camil fait partie de la collection permanente de La Colección Jumex, la Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros et de la Kadist Art Foundation parmi d’autres. Ses expositions solos incluent "The little dog laughed" au Blum and Poe de Los Angeles, "Entrecortinas: abre, jala, corre" à OMR Gallery, Mexico City, "Espectacular Telón" à la Sultana Gallery à Paris, et "Cuadrado Negro" au Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo en Espagne.

À travers son travail Pia Camil a montré une inclination à l’échec ou au délabrement associés au paysage urbain mexicain, aux aspects de la culture moderniste et aux traces de l’histoire de l’art. Sa pratique explore la ruine urbaine, incluant des peintures et photographies de projets interrompus le long des axes routiers du Mexique (highway follies), des panneaux d’affichage abandonnés qui deviennent comme des rideaux de scène en théâtralisant par conséquent des stratégies capitalistes échouées (espectaculares), ou des problèmes et contradictions qui surviennent lorsqu’il s’agit d’œuvres d’art emblématiques ((No A trio A or Cuadrado Negro).
