Small iridescent objects hover and slowly rotate in mid-air, as if moved by an unseen force. Both OR-BIT works are replicas of oil drill bits, yet they resemble monuments—part ancient pyramid, part futuristic architecture, —evoking both past civilizations and distant futures. Today, oil—central to nearly every aspect of modern life—is one of the world’s most lucrative industries. While the shapes and shimmering colors of OR-BIT allude to the ramifications of wealth that the oil extraction has brought to West Asia and the world, these floating forms lack a foundation. This instability reveals a deeper truth: that even the most powerful systems are vulnerable. OR-BIT offers a quiet warning—a reflection on the fragility of power, and the certainty that it, too, can fall.

Other works from this series have been acquired by the Jameel Art Center (Dubai) and CIRCL pavilion (Amsterdam).
