In a red-lit room, two large murex seashell sculptures hang from the ceiling, their mirrored forms inviting viewers to listen closely. Instead of ocean waves, visitors hear a poetic dialogue between two voices recounting their gender transformation, inspired by real environmental disruptions caused by tributyltin (TBT). This chemical, used in oil tanker paint to prevent marine growth, leaks into the ocean, altering ecosystems. In murex molluscs, TBT forces females to change gender, devastating populations. Gastromancer transforms these creatures into storytellers, using their haunting voices to connect environmental damage with societal shifts, drawing inspiration from The Diesel (1994), a novel about identity during the oil boom.
