In his most recent series, Lionel Estève masterfully cuts and stitches delicate layers of tulle—sometimes as many as eight or ten—into enchanting figurative forms. This meticulous process transforms the ethereal material into vibrant, multidimensional compositions that act as temporal markers. The interplay of subtle chromatic shifts between the layers evokes the progression of a scene, inviting the viewer's gaze to move between the surface and the translucent depth of the materials. This oscillation offers a meditative exploration of natural phenomena and their ephemeral beauty.
Created specifically for the exhibition Juste pour voir… at the Centre d'Art Contemporain de la Matmut (France), L’Orage captures the fleeting elegance of rain during a thunderstorm. The work reflects Estève’s enduring fascination with nature, a theme that has been a constant and profound source of inspiration throughout his artistic practice.
