Gregor Hildebrandt started making cut record paintings in 2015. The first ones were minimal monochromatic black paintings, which quickly developed into a series mimicing the pattern he used for his „Hinrholz“ audiotape paintings, themselves inspired by the pattern of a end-grain pattern. After playing with colorful labels and at last colorful records, the artist later developed this series of works with more complexe and figurative patterns.
The pattern of work "Steine auf der Landebahn" is inspired by a terrazzo floor in Venice.
