For his fourth solo exhibition at Perrotin New York in January 2026, Gregor Hildebrandt presented his most recent series of works: the Prismen (prisms). Deriving from the artist's series of paintings made out of cut records which was started in 2015, the Prismen (prisms) combine the mosaic of the record paintings with three-dimensional geometrical structures. These works exist between painting and sculpture, as elusive as the songs they contain within.
In Hildebrandt’s series, the reflection and diffraction of light by prisms is guided by the grooves of his cut records. The works invite viewers to walk around in order to comprehend the records’ patterns.
