Christiane Pooley made a sequence and variation of two paintings in response to ending or transforming a love relationship and coming to terms with not only the loss of another but also an intimate part of herself. In this work, the artist attempts to make sense of her own complex emotions but also explore the extent to which painting can provide a means of communicating the unspeakable. As the Swedish geographer Gunnar Olsson wrote, "The language of human relationships is so deeply different to the language itself".
