British artist Nick Goss’s paintings explore the tangible and psychological experience of space. Working with tonal washes and faded colors, he creates spaces that endure within memory and fantasy where space and time are fleeting and irrelevant. Appearing as memories from old photographs, his paintings have elements that are faded into invisibility or pronounced with precise detail. Demonstrating his fascination for the uncanny, his disjointed images force the viewer to form their own interpretation based on their own experiences. The motif of erasure prevails throughout his work with the raw material primarily exposed to depict fragile and visceral settings. He aims for his images of landscapes or interiors to not be defined by certainty but rather to exist in between reality and memory.
