Kathia ST. HILAIRE

S'inspirant de sa jeunesse dans les quartiers caribéens et afro-américains du sud de la Floride, l'artiste rend hommage aux communautés dont elle a fait partie à travers des techniques de gravure innovantes. Son travail s'inspire des drapeaux vaudou haïtiens utilisés pour raconter l'histoire du pays et honorer les esprits ancestraux. Avec des matériaux non traditionnels comme des produits de beauté, du métal industriel, du tissu ou des pneus, elle crée des tapisseries ornées qui cherchent à préserver l'histoire haïtienne et la religion vaudou qui existent à Miami. 

Kathia St. Hilaire a obtenu son MFA en peinture et gravure à la Yale School of Art de New Haven, Connecticut, et son BFA en gravure à la Rhode Island School of Design de Providence. Ses œuvres ont récemment fait l'objet d'expositions collectives au Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and et à la galerie d’art de Skidmore College à Saratoga Springs, ainsi qu’à New York à la Half Gallery, Blum & Poe et James Fuentes.
