MADSAKI

Diplômé de la Parsons School of Design de New York (BFA, 1996), MADSAKI est né à Osaka, au Japon, et a grandi dans le New Jersey, aux États-Unis. Il se nourrit de ces deux cultures qui ont façonné son esthétique et sa personnalité. Ses œuvres convoquent aussi bien des références à l’argot, au cinéma et au manga, l’artiste explore depuis peu des sujets plus personnels et intimes. Pour l’exprimer visuellement, MADSAKI a développé un style propre, utilisant la peinture aérosol comme un medium classique, n’ayant jamais pratiqué le graffiti de façon illégale dans la rue. L’artiste est particulièrement connu pour sa série Wannabe, qui au premier abord prend pour cible les grands maîtres avec humour, mais dont la signification plus profonde constitue un thème récurrent de sa pratique : une tentative d'utiliser le rire et l'humour à la fois comme une distraction et comme une thérapie pour ses tourments intérieurs.
