Elevation 1049 is the first of a series of expositions in situ created from specificities of a season and a place, under the impulse of the curators Neville Wakefield and Olympia Scarry and produced by the LUMA& Foundation.
It will occur in the mountains of Gstaad, and will participate exclusively only Swiss artists. As the title indicates, most of the works will be exposed inside, situated in and defined by the landscape they reside in. Proposed in winter, Elevation 1049 will exchange the limits of the white cube against the immense background canvas of the Alps covered in snow. By using the altitude as a scale of measure, each project, in it’s own way, will mark the separation between earth and sky, paradise and hell. By tracing the contours of what is under our feet and our aspirations, Elevation 1049 will establish the map of this territory.
