These paintings depict the banks of the Seine in Asnières, a stone's throw from the artist's studio where he used to work in 2021.
Delhomme represents the oddity of which Verlaine speaks, the impermanence of the visible that he captures through the eye and not through photography. At the same time as Verlaine wrote verse, the Impressionists were painting the banks of the Seine en plein air. Here, Delhomme revisits, yet with a less picturesque vision — graffiti, warehouses, riverside lanes.
