"I started making this painting in the midst of fall 2024 as I was wondering where I was going with my work.
Somehow this painting came up in two times: end of the year and then early 2025. The first version was a little darker I think, it didn't have the same light coming through the clouds and those two animals that finally decided to show up with that drifting figure. One I found in an old Nat Geo magazine and the other I saw on Instagram.
After a few months I was happy to see how optimism was driving this painting, I need to have something to hold on to and to support me as an artist and that painting is exactly what I'm after in my studio work. It's probably the most personal work I made over the last year." - Charles Hascoët
