Terry Richardson is a snapshot master. Best known for his editorial work in fashion and his celebrity portraiture, he has developed a bare point-and-shoot aesthetics based on the overexposure and spontaneous casualness of his subjects, who range from models, actors, musicians, and politicians to close relatives. He was one of the most prominent figures of the second-wave “porno chic” that swept the industry in the 2000s, and his provocative style often exhibits comical nudity and explicit close-ups. Working off raw emotions rather than crafted angles, he makes systematic use of light, compact cameras, which allows him to freely engage in the dynamics of his seemingly candid shoots. Richardson is further interested in landscape photography as a means to strip down America’s contemporary culture: for instance, he has documented the pervasive tension between religion and the sex industry during various road trips across the country.

PERROTIN

New York Gallery Reopening

Perrotin New York is open with limited capacity through August 14. We remain open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am - 6pm and for select appointments on Mondays. Reservations are preferred, and can be made by phone, email (bookingny@perrotin.com), or through the See Saw app.

The well-being of our community is our priority, and we have implemented strict precautionary measures for both our staff and visitors by: limiting capacity and carefully monitoring flow throughout the gallery, requiring all visitors and staff to wear a mask, providing touch-free hand sanitizer on each floor, retro-fitting all desks with plexiglass screens, making exhibition leaflets accessible via QR code, conducting routine cleanings of all surfaces, and implementing an RSVP system in the event that we need to assist public health officials with contact tracing.

Please do not hesitate to be in touch — info@perrotin.com
