In 2004, JR's project "Portrait of a Generation" exhibited portraits of youths from the Les Bosquets ghetto of Paris, in the neighborhood and in the chic areas of paris. By bringing these grimacing portraits to prominence within the projects where the teens lived, JR challenges the audience to question the representation of a generation within society and the media.
In 2014, JR revisits this project by using the same portraits from the original series, but brought to life by the dancers of the Opéra de Paris. This photo series began after JR’s encounter with the dancers on his film set Les Bosquets.
