For this edition of Severed Spots, the team behind MSCHF purchased the print Flumequine, 2007, by Damien Hirst. They then proceeded to cut out each of the 108 spots using an X-Acto knife and a ruler, in a sense subdividing the valuable real estate that is a hallowed Hirst artwork, and selling the dots individually for $4,400 USD, 10% of the original price.
Each dot is framed and signed by MSCHF.
Separately, the original Flumequine is presented as a skeleton of the original work, framed in double paned glass, and installed suspended in the gallery floating in front of the framed spots. The original is signed and dated by Damien Hirst and MSCHF.
