Iván Argote is included in the 2022 Platform section of The Armory Show, curated by Tobias Ostrander and dedicated to the theme of Monumental Change. For the last two decades Iván Argote has been investigating and creating interventions on public monuments, specifically those with a colonial legacy, through poetic and political gestures. In Platform, Argote presents work from his Wild Flower series, which utilizes planters made from disembodied fragments of Wall Street’s iconic George Washington monument. Deconstructed into constituent parts, the statue is recast into containers for regional plants, proposing an alternative monument that fosters regeneration.
